A Spell from Camp by Blood, Joan, and Truffle.
The Wish Bird spell has been part of Reclaiming since forever. See Phoenix LeFae’s description in the book Elements of Magic: Reclaiming Earth, Air, Fire, Water & Spirit edited by Jane Meredith and Fio Gede Parma.
In the Wish Bird spell we start with a wish, a longing, a deep desire. We call up energy from the Earth, call in energy from the Universe, breathing it in with each breath and allowing it to flow down to our cupped hands where the bird of our wish begins to nestle, then breathing into our hands to feed our wish and the bird of our wish. When we are ready and our wish is ready and the bird is stirring to fly, we release the bird and into the world, release our wish into the world, and trust the wish bird to manifest our wish.
The Wish Birds of Resistance spell is done in a group, weaving our individual wishes and wish birds into a flock of wishes flying together. We go around the circle three times. Each time around the circle, every person speaks a wish and feeds energy to their wish bird (with the option to make a silent wish if need be). My wish could be explicitly for a collective good, but can also simply focus on myself — survival is resistance, survival with joy is more resistance. Either way, collectively we witness each others’ wishes, and by that witness your wish in one round may influence my wish in the next round, and vice-versa. So far, this is Blood’s idea. Joan insisted that we keep all three wishes (rather than simply revising a single wish). Truffle invented the ending — we put all our hands in the center of the circle, all of us breathe energy into everyone’s bird, and only then do we release our wishes and our flock.
