A Spell from Camp by Blood, Jon, and Pansie.
The Reclaiming Principles of Unity were created by the original Reclaiming Collective in 1997 and modified twice since then by the worldwide community. They are a statement of our core practices and values.
The following is a spell, crafted as sequence of excerpts from the Principles in order of occurence. The original idea was Blood’s; Jon modified the tech so that each of us in the group read one line and passed it on; and Pansie had the realization that this would be easier if each line was on one card in a Rolodex (which, alas, we didn’t have at camp!)
The earth is alive.
All of life is sacred.
The Goddess is immanent in the earth’s cycles of birth, death, and regeneration.
We have a deep, spiritual commitment to the earth and healing.
We link magic with political action.
Each of us embodies the divine.
Our ultimate spiritual authority is within.
We foster the questioning attitude.
We proudly call ourselves Witches.
We honor Mysterious Ones, Goddesses, and Gods of myriad expressions, genders, and states of being.
Mystery goes beyond form.
Our rituals are participatory and ecstatic.
We celebrate the cycles of the seasons and our lives.
We raise energy for personal, collective and earth healing.
Everyone can do the life-changing, world-renewing work of magic.
We foster personal and collective empowerment.
We model shared power.
We open leadership roles to all.
We make decisions by consensus.
We balance individual autonomy with social responsibility.
We honor the wild.
We serve the earth and the community.
We work in diverse ways, including nonviolent direct action.
We work for all forms of justice: environmental, social, political, racial, gender and economic.
We are an anti-racist tradition that strives to uplift and center the voices of Black people, Indigenous people, and People of Color.
We express a feminism that includes a radical analysis of power.
We recognize all systems of oppression as being interrelated, rooted in structures of domination and control.
We welcome all genders.
We welcome all gender histories
We welcome all races
We welcome all ages
We welcome all sexual orientations
We welcome all those differences of life situation, background, and ability that increase our diversity.
We strive to make our rituals and events accessible and safe.
We try to balance the need to be justly compensated for our labor with our commitment to make our work available to people of all economic levels.
All living beings are worthy of respect.
All living beings are supported by the sacred elements of air, fire, water and earth.
We work to create and sustain communities and cultures that embody our values.
We work to help to heal the wounds of the earth and her peoples.
We work to sustain each other and nurture future generations.
