Events: Teacher Biographies

Teachers offering classes in the Mid-Atlantic region come from a variety of traditions, backgrounds, and talents. The following teachers (in alphabetical order) have volunteered information about themselves:

Aerianna:

L. Aerianna Tayerle: I most often describe myself as a Shamanic Artist and a gardener. My art is my magic and much of my magic is art. Art for me is about embodying the divine. It is my portal key to other realms and my means of recording prophetic vision. The other part of my magical practice is very common sense and down to earth. It's about sustainability - living right sized and in balance, and is reflected in my second passion, gardening. I learn from compost and plants. The green ones are my allies- as are crow, and goldfinch, and worm. I teach magic, art and gardening workshops, often combining all three.

My goal when I teach magical and mundane workshops is to help others seek and define the Divine within themselves and to integrate their magical and practical lives. I have been a witch for over 20 years. I am a Reclaiming Initiate and have lived, learned, and taught within the Reclaiming tradition for many years. I have been part of Mid-Atlantic's emerging Reclaiming community since the day in 1994 when someone asked me: "You're a witch, do you think if we held a WitchCamp here on this coast we could get people to come? Could you help?"

Amy MoonDragon:

When I was 5 years old, I had a dream about a sepia colored cavern extending as far as the eye could see and lit by torches hanging from the wall. In a corner, seated at an ornately carved wooden table, was an old woman in black, leaning over a huge leather bound book. She wrote with an old-fashioned ink pen and as drops of ink would fall onto the page, they became mice which scampered off in all directions. I awoke and told my mother that I had dreamed of a "witch writing mice". Weird? Definitely. Prophetic? Maybe. I now serve the Goddess by helping others to write the story of their lives. I use tarot and peer counseling techniques as my primary tools. Hopefully, my clients take these droplets and scamper off in all directions. My passions are tarot, creative movement, drumming and dreaming.

In her former life she was a public school teacher and loves to share her knowledge and experience with others. He is committed to the building and nurturance of the emerging Cultures of Beauty, Balance and Delight. He believes that we are all Co-creators of the Multiverse.

Donald suspects that it is high time that we choose to take on the continual acts of creation needed to build these sustainable ways of life. He knows in his bones and blood, that we all have the power to bring these emerging cultures into out daily lives. He no longer is willing to wait for some nebulous future revolution to begin to live a life fully awake and rooted in the Earth embracing pleasure and wonder. Donald begins each day with this prayer;

“I dare to dwell in beauty, balance and delight.
I dare to see with clear eyes and an open heart.”

It also brings him great pleasure to encourage folks to also dare to embrace their own authentic selves, remembering that they are their own authorities, and that they can always choose to experience the beauty that surround us.

Donald suspects that when a community of authentic selves does come together with clear intent and purpose, that that community then truly enters the Realms of All Possibility and that their dreams become flesh and bone, earth and stone.

Donald has taught for over fifteen years in the Reclaiming Witch Style; in his local communities, at Reclaiming Witch Camps, at Radical Faerie gatherings and at other events through out North America and Great Britain. He is an initiate of the Reclaiming Tradition and a senior Reclaiming Witch Camp teacher. He has been studying and working with the Ancestors intensively for several years.

Although she is in a monogamous relationship with her soul mate, the Gods still think of her as a sacred slut. If They ask, she always says yes.

Molly Rae:

At 11 years I realized the cyclical nature of the Earth and knew that I myself was not separate from that awesome force. When I was 17 years old I crawled through some priestess's legs and was born to the Godess, and have been hanging out with her ever since. I am the first generation to be born into the Glitter Whore tradition, but am unafraid to wear clunky black shoes and have smelly arm pits. I am Capricorn and feel strongly rooted into the rich black soil of my native Indiana lands. I am an active member of the Bloomington community witch nourishes me. Ray:

Ray has been drawn to witchcraft and the occult arts since as long as he can remember. One of his earliest memories as a child during the '60s was of a visit to a candle lit and incense laden occult shop stocking various mysterious sounding herbs. Needless to say, it left a lasting impression and, when he finally found Reclaiming witchcraft and this wondrous SpiralHeart community, there was no turning back. Along the way, he has developed a real fondness for the Crowley Tarot and the Fey. The Celtic pantheon resonates with him deeply, particularly those of Ireland and Wales and he occasionally dabbles with freehand knotwork designs when particularly inspired. He enjoys late night circles in his backyard beneath the dark and full moons and trance dreams to the Dark Faery, to whom he is a dedicant.

Rebecca:

She has practiced witchcraft since childhood in the north country, and has been chief broom pusher, planning slut (anywhere, anytime, with anyone…), and resident clown of the Ritual Community on Boston's north shore since the early 90's. For the past ten years, she has earned her living in the mainstream religious community; bringing the ritual arts into Protestant circles on Sunday mornings, as well as deep listening and transformational possibility into the lives of those who would have justice, peace and abundance. In this year, she has embarked on a sabbatical to reconstruct Eden in her own backyard, as well as answer the call to write, reflect and walk the edge where magic and mundane meet She is a collector and teller of stories, a friend to fabric, paint and yarn, and a bona fide fashion witch. She's given up dangling from cliffs and jumping out of airplanes in favor of treks along the trails and up the mountains of Appalachia. Rebecca believes that there is more than one way to be funny, sassy and wild, and has been known to prove it. She's also been known to shut up - sometimes for a week or so. Currently Rebecca makes her home outside of Boston in the Shawsheen watershed, surrounded by a liberated yard and (excepting her strange and too perky canine), a family of exceptional talent and inspiration.

For the last decade she has taught numerous classes, intensives and retreats, and has been a co-creator of public ritual in communities in the US, Canada and Great Britian. After 15 years as a San Franciscan, the skanky swampland of Washington, DC staked its claim on her; she moved east at the end of the last millenium. As a "Priestess of the Place" she works directly with the land, creating rituals of stillness, dance, prayer, and other improvisations in places of unsettled energy, such as US Civil War battlefields, the Masonic Geometry of the powerful - and wounded - District of Columbia, and at the U.S.'s National Altars (the Presidential monuments and buildings such as the Capitol and the Supreme Court).

Rook:

Rook appreciates the opportunity to introduce himself in a way that does not replicate the traditional you-are-what-you-do norm of greeting, because he finds that norm to be dehumanizing. Instead, Rook characterizes himself as talented in these areas: Storytelling, Harp playing, eating ethnic spicy food for breakfast, reading an occasional Tarot card or two, facilitating very difficult conversations and relationships. He is also bilingual in Spanish, magickally mixes Witchcraft and Buddhism as he meditates every morning and night with Brigid and White Tara, often (sometimes foolishly) challenges authority, and regularly (almost obscenely) indulges in science fiction TV shows and Kung Fu movies that can only be counter-balanced with long bouts of Enya music. Rook knows when to be silent and know when to speak up, believes in good manners and courtesy, and offers gratitude and forgiveness. Where possible, he tries to create room for others. Rook loves laughter with occasional silliness, can actively listen, give comfort, and above all, has a deep sense of compassion for himself and others. Rook has been involved in Reclaiming for about five years, has worked to organize SpiralHeart Witchcamp, and has taught previously at Avalon Witchcamp. He lives in Maryland with his spouse, Gryphon, and six parrots (feathered people, if you ask him or Gryphon) who are affectionately called "The Chickens".

She is a gardener, web-weaver, belly dancer, activist, handy-woman, feminist, artist, community organizer, and theatre slut (you name it, she has done it ).
